According to Voetbal International, FC Metz want to bring Georges Mikautadze back to France. Ajax signed the 23-year-old forward last summer, paying Metz approximately €16m. So far this season, the Georgia international has featured just eight times in all competitions, starting only two of those matches.

Georges Mikautadze started Ajax’s matches with Fortuna Sittard and Almere City, which both ended in draws. The talented attacker is yet to register a goal contribution in an Ajax shirt and his chances have been limited due to the likes of Brian Brobbey and Chuba Akpom receiving more opportunities.

Last month, Pierre Dréossi, the director of football at Metz, insisted that Georges Mikautadze will succeed at Ajax. ‘As a striker, he can reach a high level. I’m sure he can score more than 20 goals in a whole season,’ Dréossi told Ajax Showtime. ‘I’m not crazy, he can really do that. Provided he plays in his best position. He has the qualities to become a very good and special striker. I don’t know from the wing or behind the striker.’

Now, the French Ligue 1 side are looking at bringing Mikautadze back to Metz. Because the forward has featured for both Metz and Ajax this season, Mikautadze is unable to join another club in January. However, players are allowed to play for a maximum of two clubs per season, making Metz the only option in the upcoming transfer window. A loan move looks to be a serious possibility for the side currently sitting 14th in the Ligue table.
