Latest news from Bayern

Pre-season is done and now the Munich Frauen get down to the real business of winning trophies, starting in the very first fixture of the season. After a 3-1 friendly loss to Newcastle United and a 2-2 draw with Zürich, new coach José Barcala took his team on a five-day training camp in Tyrol. Bayern returned by beating Real Madrid 4-1 in Munich, although then lost their final friendly by the same scoreline against OL Lyonnes.

Wolfsburg played four friendly matches in the build-up to the new campaign. They first lost 3-2 to RB Leipzig before a 6-0 victory over Sparta Prague. That was then followed by a 2-0 defeat to Bundesliga newcomers Union Berlin. New coach Stephan Lerch and his team finally warmed up for the new season with a 3-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayern faced Wolfsburg three times last season. Klara Bühl’s goal brought the Supercup to Munich, but the She-Wolves won the first Bundesliga meeting 2-0 at home. The reverse fixture at the FC Bayern Campus put things right with a 3-1 Bayern victory.

A clear game plan will be key for us – precision in our patterns of play, whether in the build-up, in pressing or in transition.”

Klara Bühl: “We know it’ll be a demanding game against Wolfsburg, but we have the quality and the aspiration to put in a really good game on Saturday. Our goal is to retain the title and go into the new season feeling good.”
