FC Bayern Women follow last weekend’s 4-0 win away at Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga with another pivotal fixture as the Munich ladies host Eintracht Frankfurt in the semi-final of the DFB Cup. Kick-off at the FC Bayern Campus on Sunday is at 3.45pm CEST. Here’s all you need to know ahead of the game in our preview.

State of play

Bayern have seen off Andernach in the second round (2-0), Kickers Offenbach in the last 16 (6-0) and Carl Zeiss Jena in the quarter-finals (3-0) to book their place in the final four of the cup against fellow Bundesliga side Frankfurt.

Alexander Straus’s team come into this tie in excellent form on the back of eight straight wins in all competitions. Bayern last faced Eintracht in the cup back in the 2021/22 round of 16, with the Bavarians progressing thanks to a 4-2 home win. The most recent encounter, however, was only a few weeks ago as Bayern went to Frankfurt in the Bundesliga and claimed a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Klara Bühl and Lea Schüller.

Klara Bühl bagged a brace the last time Bayern met Frankfurt in the DFB Cup.

Opponent: Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht have won both their Bundesliga games since the defeat to Bayern three weeks ago. That has taken Niko Arnautis’s team onto 32 points in fourth place in the table.

Frankfurt’s DFB Cup journey also began in the second round with an 8-0 win over lower-league Hegauer FV. They then beat Freiburg 2-1 in the last 16 before a 4-1 victory over Duisburg in the quarters set up this final-four encounter in Munich.

Team news

Straus remains without without Weronika Zawistowska (cruciate ligament), Cecilia Ran Runarsdottir (kneecap), Ana Maria Guzman (knee), Tainara (illness) and Franziska Kett (muscular) for Sunday’s semi-final. Kett will also miss any potential final on 9 May after a muscular injury ruled her out for the remainder of the season.

Pre-match quotes

Alexander Straus: “The mood in the team is very good after last weekend’s win. But now we need to turn our focus to the next task at hand on Sunday. Frankfurt are a very tough opponent, a team with good quality. It’ll be a tight encounter. If we play our game and show our quality, then we can win against Frankfurt.”

Jovana Damnjanovic: “Frankfurt and we both have the same big dream of reaching the cup final in Cologne. I think they’ll be very motivated; they have nothing to lose. We’re expecting an intense game. It’ll be exciting till the final minute.

Glodis Viggosdottir: “We’re very focused on the important game in the cup. It’ll be an intense and hard-fought encounter. Our goal is to perform well and implement the things we’ve practised this week in training.”
