Alfreð Finnbogason showed his quickness in front of goal against Argentina; he’s been showing the same for FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga.
Finnbogason, who broke into the first team at Breiðablik in his native Iceland, played in Belgium, Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, and Greece before landing in Bavaria.
Initially signing on loan in February 2016, the 6’1″ forward quickly acclimatised to the style of play in the Bundesliga. He scored seven goals over 14 appearances, a goal-haul worthy of a permanent transfer.
The Icelander was hampered by injuries in the 2016-17 season but notched 12 goals this past campaign.
Through his time with Augsburg, Finnbogason showed an ability to score a variety of goals. His height and strength have led to seven headed goals, five goals with his weaker foot show he is dangerous on either side, and he is lethal from the penalty spot having made all four of his attempts.
The 29-year old forward stepped up with a timely rebound to equalize Saturday’s match just four minutes after Sergio Agüero had scored for Argentina.
