It’s a bumper Sunday in the FA Women’s Super League with six games including Manchester United v Tottenham and a mouth-watering clash between Manchester City and Arsenal.
Scorers: Shaw 66′; Heath 90+2′.
Tobin Heath came off the bench to score a stoppage-time equaliser to earn a valuable point for Arsenal in a controversial game at the Academy Stadium.
Manchester City finally made the breakthrough in the 66th minute when a quick break down the left allowed Lauren Hemp the chance to play the ball across the six-yard box for Khadija Shaw the opportunity to tap home.
However, there were some questions over whether the play should’ve been stopped in the build-up as the ball hit the referee but the goal stood and the visitors were only about to get more frustrated.
Arsenal thought they should’ve had a penalty immediately after going behind when Beth Mead was taken down inside the area but nothing was given and Gunners boss Jonas Eidevall was booked for his remonstrations.
But their mood improved late on as Heath fired a low shot through a crowded penalty area to level proceedings as the league leaders remain ahead of second-placed Manchester United by two points.
Scorers: Svitková 41′, Brynjarsdóttir 57′, Walker 86′
West Ham are up to seventh in the table after a comprehensive win over Everton.
Kateřina Svitková gave West Ham the lead just before half-time, before Dagný Brynjarsdóttir doubled their advantage in the second half.
Claudia Walker then completed a comfortable victory in the dying minutes.
Scorers: Hampton 76′; Purfield OG 4′, Lehmann 90+3′
Aston Villa momentarily steered themselves away from relegation trouble with a late goal to beat struggling Leicester.
An early own goal from Leicester’s Jemma Purfield gave Villa the lead at the Pirelli Stadium.
And another own goal from Villa goalkeeper Hannah Hampton drew the hosts level late in the second half.
But Villa nicked the three points with a dramatic late winner from Alisha Lehmann deep into stoppage time.
Scorers: Vanhaevermaet 45+4′, Dowie (P) 48′, Harries 55′; Lawley 3′, Pennock 36′
Reading are up to sixth in the table after a remarkable comeback victory over bottom club Birmingham City.
Gemma Lawley gave the visitors an early lead at the Madejski Stadium before Jade Pennock increased their advantage nine minutes before half-time.
But the hosts pulled one back through Justine Vanhaevermaet in first half stoppage time, before Natasha Dowie equalised from the penalty spot early in the second half.
And in the 55th minute, Gemma Harries completed a remarkable comeback when she put Reading 3-2 up.
Scorers: Risa 38′, Ladd 42′, Galton 62′
Manchester United’s stunning run of form continued as they comfortably beat Tottenham 3-0 on Sunday.
It was United who started the brighter of the two sides, dominating the ball but struggling to create any meaningful chances against a resolute Spurs defence.
But the home side eventually did take the lead on 38 minutes as Vilde Risa bundled in from a corner to scorer only her second for the club.
United took total command of this game soon after as Hayley Ladd ghosted into the penalty box and headed in to double their lead.
Into the second half and the Red Devils added their third just after the hour mark as Leah Galton capitalised on a defensive error to tap into an unguarded net.
Spurs did have one chance to pull one back but somehow Rachel Williams missed her header from three yards when it looked certain she would score.
Brighton produced a backs-to-the-wall defensive display as they held out for a brilliant o-0 draw at home to Chelsea.
Brighton impressed in a resolute first half as Chelsea were held to just a few half-chances in the opening 45 minutes.
Fran Kirby was the Blues player who went closest but her effort went just wide as Emma Hayes’s team licked their wounds at the break and tried to find the opening goal in the second period.
After half time the west London outfit continued to push for a goal but once again the Seagulls were impressing in defence.
With 10 minutes remaining Chelsea had had 21 shots on goal but just three on target as well as 70 per cent of possession.
But that monopoly on the ball wasn’t enough as the hosts claimed a famous draw.
