The father of in-demand Feyenoord star Santiago Giménez has this weekend provided an insight into interest in his son on the part of La Liga giants Real Madrid.

Frontman Giménez, for his part, has enjoyed a scintillating campaign to date.

All told, in 25 Eredivisie appearances, the Mexican international has rattled off a head-turning 25 direct goal contributions (21G, 4A).

His production on the continent has not been too shabby, either, with six appearances between the Champions League and Europa League having given rise to three goals, and an assist.

In turn, media speculation pointing towards a whole host of top clubs from across Europe keeping a close eye on Giménez’s development has come as little surprise.

Over the last couple of months, the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Barcelona have all been tipped as potential landing spots for the prolific attacker.

As alluded to above, though, speaking this weekend, Giménez’s father admitted that it is another of Spanish football’s heavyweight clubs who have in fact been in contact for the 22-year-old.

During an interview with David Faitelson, as cited by Diario Sport, Christian Giménez began by providing his take on the place of centre-forwards at La Liga’s biggest clubs:

“Spanish is a football that combines several styles. There are teams like Barcelona that likes possession, Madrid that plays more directly, but the teams at the same time are teams that use the number 9 to finish plays. Atlético Madrid is a team that stands up well and always has a 9 in the hierarchy.”

From here, Giménez then went on to confirm that Real Madrid have made clear to the Feyenoord star and his entourage that, prior to any potential move to the Santiago Bernabéu, an ‘intermediate step’ will be required:

“Real Madrid is a team that wants to see Santiago take an intermediate step, not go directly from Feyenoord to Madrid.”
