Fara Williams MBE has today been named as the first 2021 inductee of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League’s Hall of Fame.

The news was announced via an official press release issued by The Football Association earlier this morning.

Williams played in every season in the first decade of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League before hanging up her boots at the end of last season. She was with Everton for the competition’s ground-breaking first season and the 2012 campaign before joining Liverpool where she won back-to-back league titles. Williams then spent 18 months with Arsenal before ending her playing career with a successful spell at Reading.

Ahead of the current season, Williams’ record of 147 appearances in the league was fifth overall, while she was fourth on the all-time list for assists (28) and second for the number of chances created (266). Throughout her playing career, Williams proved time and time again that she was a born winner. The player brought steel and determination to every club where she played, showing a keen eye for the opposition goal, scoring a number of wonderful goals.

Speaking after adding Williams to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League’s Hall of Fame, Kelly Simmons, Chair of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League Hall of Fame panel, said: “Induction into the Barclays FA Women’s Super League Hall of Fame is the highest individual honour offered by the league and I am delighted that Fara is our first inductee.

“She is one of those players that can do something special when you least expect it, and because of that, as well as having been an ever-present in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League prior to her retirement, the panel was unanimous in her being inducted.

“Not only was she an incredible player, but she is a wonderful person, and she is fully deserving of her induction into the inaugural Barclays FA Women’s Super League Hall of Fame. Congratulations Fara.”

Three more individuals will be inducted to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League’s Hall of Fame by lunchtime tomorrow, with extended interviews with all four inductees available to watch on the ‘Inside the WSL’ show on Sky Sports Premier League at 6pm tomorrow evening.

A dedicated website to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League Hall of Fame will launch to coincide with the final inductee being unveiled at wslhalloffame.thefa.com.  You can keep up with the latest inductee unveilings on the Barclays FA WSL Twitter page.
