The scenario: Both teams are still unbeaten at the Club World Cup, having registered two wins and one draw in their respective group games. Real Madrid reached the quarter-finals thanks to a 1-0 victory over Juventus in the round of 16, while Borussia Dortmund ran out 2-1 winners against CF Monterrey. The loser will be eliminated and the winner will reach the semi-finals, where they will face Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain next Wednesday (21:00 CEST).
Head-to-head record: This will be the 17th meeting between the two clubs. All previous meetings have been in the UEFA Champions League. Borussia Dortmund have come out on top in three of their 16 clashes to date – most recently in April 2014 – while Real Madrid have won on eight occasions, including the last four in a row (5-2, 2-0, 3-2, 3-1).
This tournament: Borussia Dortmund have allowed their opponents 47 shots. That is nine fewer than Real Madrid, who have however conceded only two goals (BVB four). The Spaniards have had a better challenge win rate than their opponents in every game (challenge win rate 55.5%, Borussia 46.5%) and have always had more possession (55.5% on average, Borussia 49.3%), but have a lower xG (7.11) than the number of goals they have actually scored (eight). Real have scored in every game, while Borussia only failed to in the first game. The number of goals scored at the tournament is almost the same: Madrid eight, Dortmund seven.
