Napoli have tabled a €25m bid for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, according to the reliable Fabrizio Romano.

McTominay’s future at United still remains uncertain with about a week left until transfer deadline day.

Following a brilliant 2023/24 season in which he plundered an impressive 10 goals across all competitions, there has been no shortage of interest in McTominay this summer.

Fulham seemed to be the party making the strongest overtures in an effort to lure the Scotland international away from Old Trafford but after tabling at least two bids, they eventually baulked at United’s valuation of the player and abandoned their pursuit of him.

The Cottagers turned their attention to Burnley’s Sander Berge – who was on United’s radar.

In recent days, Napoli have emerged as a very realistic destination for McTominay, who is believed to be keen on the move amidst the possibility of playing under the tutelage of Antonio Conte.

A report covered by The Peoples Person claimed that McTominay’s potential switch to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium was being held up by the ongoing standoff between Napoli and Victor Osimhen.

Romano has now given an update and indicated that the Partenopei have presented United with a proposal for McTominay but it’s still not enough to convince the Red Devils to sanction the sale of their academy graduate.

Romano wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Manchester United have received €25m proposal for Scott McTominay but still not enough to proceed.

“Man United always asked for fee in excess of €30m to sell McTominay.”

This information was corroborated by Gianluca Di Marzio.

Fellow Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla noted that “lively negotiations” are still going on between United and Napoli to try and reach middle ground.

As per Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth, if Napoli fail to thrash out a permanent deal, they will consider a loan with an obligation to buy.

The situation with McTominay seems to be coming to a head and it’s certainly one for fans to keep a close eye on.
