Liverpool have left themselves a little short in the centre-back department following their summer transfer spree.
With Jarell Quansah having departed for Bayer Leverkusen in a £35m deal, it leaves Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez as the club’s only senior options in the position.

Richard Hughes also completed a deal for Giovanni Leoni but given the Italian is only 18 it remains to be seen how much first-team football the £26m signing gets through in his rookie season.

Accordingly we’ve seen links to more experienced centre-backs to help alleviate the burden on Liverpool’s current defensive stars.
Marc Guehi appears to be the clear frontrunner to arrive at Anfield this summer - and links have been extensive throughout the past few months.
The Crystal Palace captain is out of contract in 2026 and there seems to be no chance of him agreeing a new deal.
While the player is happy to remain and see out his current terms, Palace would prefer to sell with a £40m price tag discussed for the England international.
One element blocking the deal however is Palace’s lack of cover in the position.
They have been linked with players like Joel Ordonez and Lloyd Kelly but have yet to land a central defender. Now Fabrizio Romano has delivered some news which could finally UNBLOCK Guehi’s move to Anfield.
“Crystal Palace enter the race for French centre back Jaydee Canvot after Aston Villa bid rejected last week,” he wrote on X. “Toulouse always asked around €20m for French defender.”
