Como coach Cesc Fabregas has ruled out the possibility of the club signing Barcelona defender Eric Garcia in January, but he believes that the club will still sign another two defenders during the current transfer window.

According to some outlets, Como had submitted an initial offer for the former Manchester City centre-back, but Barcelona are keen to keep him on board, particularly after his important goal in Barca’s hectic 5-4 victory over Benfica in the Champions League this week.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of Como’s Serie A match against Atalanta at the weekend, Fabregas said: “A central defender and a full-back will come in. Eric Garcia will not, especially after his goal in the Champions League.”

Fabregas did not rule out the possibility of signing Alex Valle, who is currently out on loan at Celtic from Barcelona, but the coach was unable to give away too many details.

“We can’t say anything until we are sure, things can get complicated like with (Ivan) Fresneda,” he added.

Como have been one of the busiest Italian sides in the January transfer window, having already added goalkeeper Jean Butez, midfielder Maxence Caqueret and forward Assane Diao, who has scored twice in his first two Serie A matches, on permanent deals so far this month.

Dele Alli, who has been training with the club since Christmas, has also been signed as a free agent.
