AC Milan won four straight games to close out their Serie A campaign but it wasn’t enough as they wound up one point short of fourth place as both Inter Milan and Atalanta won their matches as well.

In an interview with Milan TV, Fabio Borini expressed his disappointment at having to play Europa League football next year.

“The feeling is difficult to express in words. We are proud of what we have done but we are disappointed that we were not able to reach fourth place.

“We left it in the hands of others rather than ours. The important thing was to play our game.

“From the pitch, something was perceived but we were good at staying focused. As has happened throughout the season, we made it complicated.

“But we did our job and we won. I think the basis was to fight to the end.

“There is no doubt, our squad is Champions League material. We are young and now we know each other well.

“Language is a minor problem but we can communicate.

“We must grow together, undoing and building every year is not easy. We must continue on a precise line and grow.”

As for Borini, he finished the season making 29 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and adding an assist.
