Southampton welcome Championship side Blackpool to the St Mary’s this Saturday, as the pair battle it out in the FA Cup.

The Premier League side made it into the fourth round of the competition after beating fellow league side Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park.

The Saints head into this game on the back of two 1-0 defeats, one in the league against Aston Villa at the weekend and the other in the EFL Cup semi-final against Newcastle United.

Meanwhile for the visitors, this game will be Mick McCarthy’s first game in charge of Blackpool, as their weekend game in the Championship was called off due to the weather.

It’s been a rough spell for the Seasiders, but their one shining moment this season came in the previous round of this competition as they beat Premier League side Nottingham Forest 4-1 at Bloomfield Road.

Southampton will be without central defender Duje Caleta-Car for this game, as the 26-year-old was shown his marching orders in the EFL Cup defeat to Newcastle in midweek.

The Premier League side were without defenders Tino Livramento and Juan Larios during the week, and it is unclear if the pair will be available for this FA Cup game.

Armel Bella-Kotchap and Stuart Armstrong both look set to miss this game as well, as they didn’t recover in time for the EFL Cup game.

Winger Theo Walcott has not featured since the 12th of December but could be in contention for a place in the matchday squad for this game.

Saints’ attacking pair of Che Adams and Adam Armstrong are both likely to be pushing for a start in this game, as the pair featured off the bench in the midweek defeat.

For Blackpool, they will definitely be without the services of winger Keshi Anderson as he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

However, the Seasiders will be able to call upon their new signing Charlie Goode, as the defender didn’t appear for Brentford in the previous round, which makes him free to play for Blackpool.

McCarthy could look to start Josh Bowler, who has recently returned to Bloomfield Road on loan for the rest of the season. The Seasiders could also look to play Ian Poveda, who missed their recent game against Watford but did manage to make an impact in the previous round.

Blackpool captain Marvin Ekpiteta came off with a hamstring injury in their last game against Watford and it is unknown as of yet if he’ll be ready for this encounter. While attacking duo Gary Madine and Jerry Yates will be pushing to start this game, with McCarthy weighing up what route to go down.
