The Football Association (FA) has agreed a new four-year broadcast deal with TNT Sports for coverage of the FA Cup., as per Eurosport.
The BBC and ITV now face a battle to secure secondary television rights.
Starting from the first round of the competition, TNT will be the go-to destination for live FA Cup games.
The broadcast company will showcase every game from the third round to the final at Wembley Stadium, although 3.00 pm kick-offs aren’t part of the package.
Selected matches from every round will be available on free-to-air (FTA) television, attracting the attention of even more spectators to the world’s oldest national football competition.
The identity of the FTA broadcaster hasn’t been disclosed, but highlights of every fixture will also be made available to ensure fans keep track of all the action.
In addition to the FA Cup games, TNT will also broadcast the English football season’s traditional curtain raiser, the Community Shield, as well as the semi-finals and final of the FA Youth Cup.
TNT have cemented their position as a major player in football broadcasting after renewing deals to broadcast the Premier League and Champions League in recent years.
The deal represents one of the FA’s biggest sources of revenue, and they intend to channel the funds into grassroots football as well as running Wembley and England teams across all age groups.
Mark Bullingham, FA Chief Executive, said: “The Emirates FA Cup is our crown jewel, and it helps us to provide vital investment across every level of English football, supporting clubs, communities, facilities and the wider grassroots game.
“We are delighted to be working with them (TNT) on our shared commitment and long-term vision that will ensure the Emirates FA Cup continues to thrive over the coming years.”
