Inter preferred to focus on the future in the January transfer market rather than providing coach Simone Inzaghi with immediate reinforcements, but they made a ‘great deal’ by signing Petar Sucic from Dinamo Zagreb, according to a FIFA agent with solid knowledge of Croatian football.

The Nerazzurri secured a permanent deal for the 21-year-old for an initial fee of €14m plus €2m in add-ons. Agent Vincenzo Cavaliere insisted the midfielder was ‘worth’ the investment, as the youngster has been drawing comparisons with Marcelo Brozovic, although he is described as ‘more physical’ than the former Inter star.

As for his characteristics, Sucic has caught the eye for his versatility, as he is deemed suitable for different positions, from playmaker to box-to-box midfielder, which is why Inter didn’t sign him to replace any specific midfielder.

Expert reassures Inter about Sucic deal: ‘A more physical Brozovic’

“He’s a player who can cover several roles in midfield: he can play as a playmaker, a box-to-box midfielder, or a holding midfielder,” FIFA agent Vincenzo Cavaliere told TMW.

“He has dynamism and physical strength, and also the right passing ability and the skill to make the key final pass.

“Inter have signed him as a promising young player, not with the intention of specifically replacing anyone.

“In Croatia, we say he’s a more physical version of Brozovic, a quality he has shown not only in the Croatian league but also in the national team and in the Champions League.

And there’s also an aspect of Sucic that stands out. He has grown significantly and steadily in recent years. From being a player a bit above average in the Under-21s, he has become one of the most interesting young players in the senior national team.

“He has a great mentality, he’s a solid player as well as a good midfielder. He’s more ready for Inter than, for example, Marcelo Brozovic was when he arrived at Inter in Milan.”

Cavaliere believes Inter can be confident about the fact that their investment will pay off, claiming there is a reason why Dinamo Zagreb demand a higher figure for another Croatian talent like Martin Baturina:

“I think they made a good deal. He’s a player worth the amount they paid,” he continued.

“They are two different stories. Baturina is a very technical, eye-catching player, who makes flashy plays. So, in the minds of Croatians, who appreciate highly technical players, he should have a higher valuation.

“Also, Baturina has always been seen as a prodigy: he was the best player in the U-19 national team, then in the U-21s. On the other hand, Sucic grew quietly, starting from Bosnia’s youth teams.

“But now it’s different: in recent years, he’s made giant strides. Inter really made a great deal.”
