The Premier League legend could be available for free this summer.

Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie has said that Wrexham signing Jamie Vardy would be a positive move for them to make, amid links between the two parties after comments by one of the League One side's chiefs.

Vardy and his Leicester side's return to the Premier League looks like it will be short-lived, barring some act of God to help keep them up.

They, alongside the two other sides that were promoted to the top flight last season, Ipswich Town and Southampton, look destined for the Championship, potentially making this season the 38-year-old's last in the Premier League, and with the club that he is so synonymous with.

The striker is out of contract at the end of this season. Despite him being a legend of the club, arguably the biggest in the Foxes' history, given his heroics that helped them to win their miraculous Premier League title in the 2015/16 campaign, their future, if they want to re-establish themselves at the top table of English football, isn't likely to involve Vardy.

It was only last season that he netted 18 goals for Leicester on their way to winning the Championship. If he were to become available, Vardy would be hot property for any second tier team looking for a goalscorer.

Wrexham links to Jamie Vardy

One of those teams that might be vying for his signature this summer is Wrexham.

Their executive director, Humphrey Ker, certainly wasn't put off by the idea of signing Vardy when asked by Sportbible. He further stated that the forward's age wouldn't be an issue for them.

The move would probably be very dependent on whether the Welsh side can win promotion from League One this season - you couldn't really see Vardy dropping to the third tier - but it wouldn't be unlike Wrexham to go out and bring in a marquee name like the former England international.

Hendrie, a pundit for Sky Sports, exclusively told Football League World that it would be a strong addition for Wrexham to make this summer.

"Jamie Vardy, obviously the links and the Wrexham chief, Humphrey Ker, that he would certainly consider taking Vardy next season, which is crazy to think of but he is still capable, I think, of causing so many problems," the ex-midfielder claimed.

"It looks like Wrexham are going to stand a really good chance of getting into the Championship. He knows that league. He's still got that pace and cleverness, and something different that they could certainly use.

"Obviously his age is one thing (to consider), but, for one season, I don't think it would be a bad signing whatsoever. So that'd be a good thing if that was true, and it'd be welcomed."

Jamie Vardy acquisition would be a major coup for Wrexham

Vardy knows how to score goals, and score them at a good rate, and there is nothing more useful to a newly promoted side, which is what Wrexham would surely be if they were to sign the 38-year-old, than a guaranteed goalscorer.

His attacking instincts still look the same. His ability to hang off the shoulders of defenders and make runs in behind is still present. Even with all the money that Wrexham have spent on forwards in the last few years, he would be head and shoulders above all of them.
