Everton target left-back Rico Henry has “everything you want from a full-back”, according to Noel Whelan.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Leeds and Coventry striker suggested there is a strong chance that Henry will leave west London as Brentford are a “selling club”.

The Sunday People claimed yesterday (as reported by Football League World) that the Toffees are interested in the 23-year-old who has also attracted the attention of Brighton, Aston Villa and Leicester City.

Lucas Digne is currently Carlo Ancelotti’s first choice at left-back but with Leighton Baines retiring, the Italian is keen to bring in fresh reinforcements.

Asked by Football Insider whether Henry could operate at the level required for Everton, Whelan said: “Pace, power, he’s got everything you want from a full-back hasn’t he. He’s a standout at Brentford.

“It’s what you look for these days in full-backs. Can you get box-to-box? Have you got the energy? Can you defend? Can you be creative in that final third? Can you support? He’s got all those characteristics, he ticks all those boxes.

“He’d be a really good signing, he’s still young.

“It’s a shame for Brentford they didn’t get promoted because this is what Brentford are. They’re a selling club, unfortunately.

“Any standouts is how they generate their money and it’s a good policy but it does weaken them and they’d have to go out there and find that substitute to fill the void.”

Henry featured in every league game last season for Brentford as they reached the play-off final.

The former Walsall man has got off to a strong start this season and registered his first assist of the campaign in the Bees’ 3-0 win against Huddersfield at the weekend.
