Birmingham were recently linked to the 32-year-old midfielder
Birmingham City have recently been linked with a move for ex-Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
According to the Mirror, the former England international is keen on returning to English football after spending the past two years with Turkish giants Beşiktaş.
The Athletic’s Gregg Evans reported that Blues are yet to make an official approach for the 32-year-old, also stating that he is in discussions with Beşiktaş to terminate his contract that was intended to run until next summer.
This would allow Birmingham to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain on a free transfer and put more money towards meeting his wage demands, with Capology estimating that the midfielder currently commands a weekly salary of £69,140.
Chris Davies and Co. have already added significant talent to their ranks this window, acquiring players such as Kyogo Furuhashi, Demarai Gray and Tommy Doyle.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, former Aston Villa midfielder and Sky Sports pundit, Lee Hendrie, believes that Oxlade-Chamberlain would be another excellent signing for Birmingham City.
“Birmingham just seem to be doing piece of business after piece of business, and you can understand why they're attracting players of Oxlade-Chamberlain’s calibre,” stated Hendrie.
“With the style they play and the formation that they're using, you do think that would suit someone like Chamberlain. He can play in wide areas, he can come and play inside.
“I think this would be such a big signing for them, I really do.
“For their promotion push, this could be another big name entering the building for Birmingham City.”
Blues have taken the 2025 summer transfer window by storm, signing players such as Furuhashi and Doyle who are capable of operating at a much higher level than the Championship.
However, Oxlade-Chamberlain would represent another stratosphere of addition.
The 32-year-old has clinched the Premier League, Champions League and countless domestic titles during his stints with Arsenal and Liverpool, highlighting the elite level he has previously operated at.
Although he is now past his peak, the midfielder still possesses a huge amount of talent, featuring consistently for Beşiktaş over the past two seasons when not sidelined with injury issues.
Davies’ side have shown during the opening stages of the 2025/26 Championship that they are capable of competing and will want to enhance their chances of fighting for promotion with some extra additions before the window ends.
Oxlade-Chamberlain would no doubt boost their ability to achieve those ambitions and further raise Blues’ global profile.
