Phil Jagielka has heaped praise on Sheffield United centre-back Anel Ahmedhodzic for the way he has performed this season.

The towering centre-back joined the Blades in the summer in a move that was seen as a real coup for Paul Heckingbottom’s side. And, those predictions have proven to be true, with Ahmedhodzic starring in the first five months of the campaign to help the Yorkshire side to second in the table.

As well as pleasing the support, the form of the defender has caught the eye of Jagielka, as he exclusively told Football League World via Sky Bet that he is a fan of the 23-year-old.

“Anel Ahmedhodžić has done great for Sheffield United this season. Being a center half myself, I spoke to the boys about him when he came in. It was important to get some cover in those positions, and not only has he performed tremendously well defensively, but he’s also popped up with some very important goals.

“Paul Heckingbottom will be delighted to have the headache sometimes whether to play him or not to play him, because he’s got some good strength in those positions. Anel’s done great, especially coming into a new country, a new club, and he’s hit the ground running.”

There’s no doubting that Ahmedhodzic has been one of the standout signings of the season and all connected to Sheffield United will be delighted with how he has performed.

He has the physicality to cope with the demands of the Championship and he also brings a composure to the defence with the way he progresses the ball up the pitch.

To receive praise from someone like Jagielka shows he is doing a lot right and he will hope to continue that form to help the Blades to promotion.
