The Midlands rivals could be going head-to-head for the 22-year-old Danishman
Leicester City and Coventry City are both plotting moves for Sturm Graz striker William Bøving before Monday’s transfer deadline, sources have exclusively told Football League World.
The days and hours are ticking down until the summer window slams shut, and it’s likely that some EFL clubs will be vying for the same targets at this very late stage.
And that is the case for two Midlands rivals, who are both looking into the possibility of adding the same centre-forward to their ranks ahead of 7pm on Monday.
FLW has been told that Leicester and Coventry are both eyeing up Danish striker William Bøving, who could be available for around the £3 million mark, but there are also unnamed Spanish clubs in the mix.
The 22-year-old, who played 18 times for his country’s under-21’s side, moved to Sturm Graz of Austria in 2022 from Copenhagen, having played 44 matches for them in all competitions prior to his exit.
Bøving has developed into a regular fixture in Sturm Graz's attack over the last three years, although it took him until the 2024-25 campaign to start finding the back of the net, having only scored three goals in 45 Austrian Bundesliga matches in his first two seasons.
Last season though, Bøving bagged 11 times in 30 domestic outings, as well as notching a further eight assists to be one of Sturm Graz's leading lights in their title-winning campaign - their second in succession after also being triumphant in 2023-24.
With less than one year remaining on his contract though, Bøving could be heading out of the exit door of the Merkur Arena before Monday's English transfer deadline - although Austria's is still open until September 5.
Out of the two clubs, it is Leicester who look to be more in desperate need of a new number nine.
Foxes head coach Marti Cifuentes currently only has two strikers on his books in the form of Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka - neither of who have scored yet in the Championship so far this season, and fresh blood is being sought after to give City a boost in the final third.
As for Coventry, goals are no problem to them right now, having fired in 12 of them in their previous two league matches against Derby County and QPR, but with Ellis Simms disappointing last season and Brandon Thomas-Asante currently occupying the right-wing position for Frank Lampard, Haji Wright is carrying a big burden as the lone front-man.
Bøving could help to ease the workload on the USA international, but Coventry won't have it easy if they are battling Leicester for the Danishman's services.
