Lee Hendrie has claimed that Blackburn Rovers losing Callum Brittain and Lewis Travis would be a big blow for the club.

It was reported by Alan Nixon last weekend that the Championship side have been unable to agree terms on new contracts for the duo.

Both of Travis and Brittain’s deals are set to expire in the summer of 2026, meaning they are entering the final 12 months of their time at Ewood Park.

This could open the door for an exit this transfer window, in case Blackburn want to avoid losing them for nothing, amid interest from Birmingham and Wrexham in Travis.

Hendrie believes it would set Blackburn back if they were to lose players of Travis and Brittain’s calibre.

He has urged the Lancashire outfit to do what they can to keep the pair at Ewood Park, as it’s necessary in order for them to remain competitive in the division.

“Yes, very worrying,” Hendrie exclusively told Football League World.

“I think what Blackburn had last season, potential and lots of young players that surrounded that potential.

“And obviously the likes of Travis, Brittain, I think you’ve got to keep hold of those players if you are to set a statement of where you actually are thinking and where you’re achieving to look at going next season.

“So you start offloading players like that, you start to worry as a fanbase, as a football club, if you’re losing players like that.”

Blackburn finished seventh in the Championship last season under Valerien Ismael, with Travis featuring 38 times in the league, while Brittain made 33 appearances in the second division.

Rovers missed out on a play-off place by just two points, so will be aiming to go one step better next season.

Losing Brittain and Travis would be a setback for Blackburn

Blackburn have found themselves in this weak position with player contract too many times in recent years, and it’s hurting the club and the team.

It’s been claimed that it could cost just £2 million to sign Travis this summer, so a move could very well be on the cards.

Losing him and/or Brittain would be a real blow for Ismael’s side, especially as there are no guarantee there would be appropriate funds given to replace either of them.

Blackburn should be working hard to tie down both players to longer-term deals given their importance to the side, as it would be a big setback if they were to lose them.
