It was reported earlier this month by the Guardian that the forward has a release clause that will become active once the club are officially relegated to the EFL.

This release clause reportedly has a value of £30 million, amid interest from both Chelsea and Manchester United.

Delap joined Ipswich last summer, and has hit a double digit goal figure in his first campaign as a top flight striker.

Goodman believes that a £30 million price tag will see a lot of suitors come forward for Delap due to it being such good value.

He’s praised the 22-year-old for being one of the bright sparks in Ipswich’s campaign, and expects that release clause to be paid.

“I think he’d be the one, Liam Delap, in terms of Ipswich probably struggling to keep hold of him,” Goodman exclusively told Football League World.

“So if it’s public knowledge that the buyout is £30 million then I think there are going to be several clubs, maybe both home and abroad, that would pay that for sure.

“And because of that, he would be a good signing for anybody, literally, because of the price tag.

“Let’s have it right, even if he went somewhere and it didn’t go right, they’d still get probably an awful lot of that £30 million back for him.

“It’s one of those, isn’t it, with transfers you just never know until they’re there.

“When you look at Ipswich’s transfers this last season you could argue he’s one of the very, very few that have been anywhere near a good signing for value.”

Ipswich are heading for relegation straight back to the Championship after gaining promotion from the Premier League in 2024.

Delap will leave Ipswich this summer

Delap’s goal-scoring record and £30 million release clause means it’s far more likely he will leave Ipswich instead of stay.

He has performed well given the circumstances surrounding the club’s struggles in the Premier League.

A move to Chelsea or Man United would be a step up, although either environment might not be what he should be looking to join at this stage of his career.

Both clubs have proven very difficult places to move to in the recent past, and there should be no shortage of alternative options either in the Premier League or even abroad that he could consider instead.
