Danny Mills is adamant West Ham striker Sebastien Haller is capable of filling the void left by the injured Michail Antonio.

The former Leeds and Manchester City defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, pointed to the 26-year-old’s ‘incredible’ spell in Germany as to reason why.

Haller made his first Premier League start of the 2020/21 campaign on Saturday in the absence of Antonio as the Hammers lost 2-1 at Liverpool.

A hamstring injury suffered in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City last month will keep Antonio out for close to a month.

He has proven to be a key player for David Moyes this season, flourishing as a central striker and scoring three goals in his six Premier League appearances.

When asked by Football Insider if Haller would be able to fill the void left by the Englishman, Mills said:

“He has got all of the attributes to fill the void left by Antonio.

“Perhaps now that he has seen what Antonio has done and how he has played he understands what he must do to move onto the next level.

“He needs to up his game and be better than he was last season but there is no reason why that cannot happen.

“Let’s not forget that he did incredibly well in Germany.”

During his time in Germany, the £45million signing scored 33 goals in 77 appearances.

His nine appearances across all competitions this season have yielded five goals, four of which came in the Irons’ EFL Cup run.
