The Robins have had an unbeaten start to the 2025-26 season under new head coach Gerhard Struber, with the most eyecatching result of all being the opening weekend 4-1 drubbing of Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The Austrian may want more new faces in though before the window closes in less than two weeks time, and players may need to leave to facilitate that, with one individual in particular being eyed up for an exit.

FLW has been told that after just one year at Bristol City, Sinclair Armstrong is on the chopping block at Ashton Gate, and could leave in the next couple of weeks.

The Republic of Ireland international forward was brought in from Championship rivals QPR in July 2024, and he appeared 37 times for the Robins in the Championship in his debut season.

Just 17 of those outings were from the start of matches though, and Armstrong was only able to find the back of the net three times in the second tier of English football in 2024-25, which was the same amount of goals he scored for Queens Park Rangers in 2023-24 from two more appearances.

Armstrong also missed eight big chances in the Championship for City last season, and come the end of the campaign, he was used as a substitute by then-manager Liam Manning for six of their last seven regular season matches as Nahki Wells was favoured as a starter, and he played just 45 minutes in the play-off semi-finals against Sheffield United.

With Emil Riis now seen as the first-choice striker for Struber, 22-year-old Armstrong has been restricted to cameos in both the Championship and EFL Cup already this season, and his City exit is now being lined up.

How much Bristol City paid for Sinclair Armstrong transfer

City's decision to sign Armstrong was somewhat of a transfer gamble, given the fact he had only scored three goals in the prior season for QPR.

The south west club paid the Hoops a reported £2.5 million for Armstrong's services despite his goalscoring record, with the Irishman having raw pace and strength to work with, with the hope that his finishing ability could be developed.

After just one season at Ashton Gate though, Armstrong looks to be on the way out, and it remains to be seen what kind of suitors he will have that will look to either take him permanently or on loan.
