Former Real Madrid assistant coach Jose Morais has sung the praises of Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil.

Morais was assistant at Real during Jose Mourinho's time in charge and worked with Ozil before his sale to the Gunners. Mourinho and Morais were at Real Madrid for three years, from 2010 to 2013, before leaving for Chelsea.

At Real, they both had Ozil as part of the first team squad, with the German having also arrived in 2010 from Werder Bremen. The midfielder, now 32, would leave Madrid for the Gunners in 2013. Ozil is now inside the final year of his contract at Arsenal, where he hasn't been registered for both the Premier League nor the Champions League by manager Mikel Arteta.

Despite this season's problems, Morais insists in terms of talent, Ozil is as good as any player he's coached.

The current Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors head coach recalled to Efe via AS: "I want to highlight him because of his quality, he is like a painter.

"He paints football like Picasso."

Morais was also at Real Madrid as Sergio Ramos was establishing himself in the starting XI.

On the Real captain, Morais added: "He is charming because of his passion for the game and intensity. He is extraordinary."

Morais also had a word for Cristiano Ronaldo, now of Juventus, with his fellow Portuguese a key in Mourinho's title success at Real Madrid in 2012.

He said: "He is a machine not only as a player, but also as a person because of the way he helps and treats others."
