Legendary former Inter striker Christian Vieri feels that the Nerazzurri did well to get the result they needed even in difficult circumstances against Venezia on Saturday.

Speaking on his Twitch channel, as reported by FCInterNews, the former striker praised the Nerazzurri’s efforts to take three points from a match in which they looked like they’d have to settle for just one.

Inter have had some excellent performances this season, from which they have almost always come away with a win, but a subpar evening was always likely to come along especially given the exhausting schedule that the team faces.

Saturday’s clash with Venezia looked to be such an occasion, with the Nerazzurri controlling possession but looking sluggish against organized opposition.

However, sometimes in football winning without being in peak form is as important as playing at a high level and winning, and Vieri felt that Inter showed this quality to manage the result in the end against Venezia.

“They got three points, but they weren’t at their best,” he reflected. “It was not like some of the other recent matches they’ve played.”

He added that “It’s hard to play in front of only five thousand people, you can’t prepare yourself mentally. In front of a full stadium it would have finished 4-0.”

“Inter looked tired to me and missed many chances, but then the good old Dzeko gave them two extra points,” the former striker went on.

“Winning was important because Milan-Juventus was the next day, meaning the chance to gain further points on their rivals,” he continued. “They suffered and struggled to score the second goal.”

And on some of the jeers at Dzeko before his goal, Vieri said that “There are always some grumbles after a few misses, but we know what it’s like to play at San Siro.”

“Maybe there was some frustration from the crowd, but no boos,” he added. “In the end they got three vital points.”
