Ralf Rangnick has revealed that he has been approached by Bayern Munich about becoming the club’s next manager.

Bayern are assessing candidates to replace Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season after a mutual decision for the German to depart. A disappointing domestic campaign has seen Bayern relinquish their Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen, ending a run of 11 consecutive campaigns as German champions.

Bayern remain in the Champions League and will take on Real Madrid in the semi-finals, though the decision for Tuchel to depart has been made.

Xabi Alonso was the club’s leading target but has re-commited his future to divisional rivals Bayer Leverkusen, while the Bavarians have also been linked with Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi.

Former Manchester United interim manager Rangnick has now confirmed he has been approached about the role.

The 65-year-old is currently preparing to lead Austria at this summer’s European Championship, but has confirmed initial conversations have been held with Germany’s most decorated club.

“Bayern have made contract with me and I have informed the Austrian Federation about it,” Rangnick told 90mins.

“My focus now is on Austria and the Euros. If Bayern tell me ‘we want you’ then I have to ask myself, do I want this at all?”

The German has a wealth of experience in the Bundesliga and has previously coached Schalke and RB Leipzig among his past clubs, leading the former to the Champions League semi-finals in 2011.
