Second time’s the charm? That’s what Manchester United might be thinking with their chase of Adrien Rabiot.

The Juventus midfielder came close to a move in the summer of 2022 but it ultimately didn’t happen to due to disagreements on both sides.

That hasn’t deterred the team from trying to sign him again as United reportedly have “concrete interest” in in his services.

The path to him looked clear and even the player seemingly favoured a move to United but a new threat has emerged.

As per Italian outlet Corriere Torino, Bayern Munich are the biggest threat to United in their attempts to sign the Frenchman.

Bayern will undergo an overhaul in the summer with many of their long-serving players at the end of their contracts.

The coach, Thomas Tuchel is also set to exit, with even United touted as one of the possible destinations for him.

In such a scenario, it isn’t a surprise that they are looking at Rabiot as a free transfer and dependable option to strengthen their midfield.

A lack of a physical presence in midfield has been bemoaned by Tuchel throughout the season and Rabiot’s arrival would fix that immediately.

However, that is where United come in. Not only do United have a leg up in doing their due diligence with the player due to their long-running interest, but his arrival would also mark a new era.

Under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s regime, this will be the first summer window so there will be no question marks on who’s actually ratifying these deals, with fans firmly behind the new owners.

With Casemiro and Eriksen’s form falling off a cliff, Rabiot would represent a smart upgrade and not for a lot of money either.

Fending off Bayern’s emerging threat by establishing their interest early and sincerely could be the key to United securing their man finally.
