Former Liverpool star Luis Garcia has claimed Joao Felix hasn’t understood one thing that’s fundamental in modern football.

Felix signed for Chelsea last summer from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth £44.5m, but started just three league games over the first half of the season.

The Portuguese decided last month he wanted to leave in order to play more regularly and he made a temporary switch to Italian giants AC Milan.

Garcia sends message to Felix

Felix made a good start to life in Italy as he scored on his AC Milan debut, but at Chelsea it just hasn’t worked out so far.

The Portugal international no doubt has a lot of talent and ability, but he struggled for regular minutes in the league as he played second fiddle to Cole Palmer in the number ten role.

There were suggestions that Maresca didn’t want Felix and he had to be convinced to accept the 25-year-old last summer.

Felix only scored one league goal during the first half of the campaign, although he fared better in the cup competitions where he was more of a regular.

The Portuguese scored seven goals for the Blues in all competitions before his departure for Italy and Garcia believes Felix has misunderstood one fundamental thing in modern football.

“At the moment, I think that Joao Felix has not understood something that’s fundamental in modern football, pure talent is no longer enough,” he said as cited on X.com.

“Quality, technique and ability on the pitch are important attributes, but it’s not enough to succeed at the highest levels.

“This might not apply to Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, who were simply in another category, but in today’s football, if you play for a team like Atletico, Barcelona, Chelsea or now Milan, you have to give even more.

“If he doesn’t change mentality, I’m worried that we’ll continue seeing him move from one club to another. And unfortunately, the level of those teams could continue to drop.”
