Former Lazio and Torino goalkeeper Luca Marchegiani believes that Inter will shake off some of their early season difficulties and begin to look more like themselves as the season wears on.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Marchegiani predicted that the Nerazzurri will grow into the season as they find their rhythm over the coming weeks.

Inter got their season started with a win over Lecce, but at the same time they will hardly feel that the performance was as convincing as they’d have liked considering that they needed until the very end of the match to find a winner and looked out of rhythm for long stretches.

The difficulties in remaining compact and playing at their preferred tempo that had manifested in preseason were also on show against newly-promoted Lecce which could be a worry, but Marchegiani is confident that this is only temporary.

“I have no doubt that they’ll grow into the season,” the former goalkeeper said. “Inter lost the league last season in the matches where they didn’t have Brozovic, now they have strong backup options in midfield like Mkhitaryan and Asllani.”

Of Romelu Lukaku’s second debut, he said that “He’s still the same player, even if he didn’t have a great match.”
