Former Napoli and Juventus midfielder Emmanuele Giaccherini feels that a loss to AC Milan in the derby would make Inter Milan’s season “more bitter.”

Giaccherini gave his thoughts on Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews. The former Italy international suggested that the Nerazzurri already have one eye on the derby.

Inter have nine matches to go in Serie A this season. But there is one in particular that they will be circling in red.

Every match left for the Nerazzurri will be important as they aim to pick up the points they need to clinch the Serie A title.

But the derby against Milan is always something special, and different from other matches.

The derby is infamously a match in which the form book is often ripped up as far as the actual performances and results on the pitch.

And winning the derby is a major objective for both the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri. With or without any real trophy considerations.

Giaccherini: Loss To AC Milan Would Make Season “More Bitter” For Inter

Milan are technically Inter’s closest rivals in the Serie A table at the moment.

However, there is not exactly the sense that the derby next month would have any chance of being a title-decider.

The reason is simple – Inter have a massive margin at the top of the table.

By the time that the derby is played, the Nerazzurri could very well be one or two results away from making mathematically certain that’ll finish the season as champions.

And in fact, Inter could very well clinch the title with a result against their city rivals.

That could add even more intrigue to the derby. But it would also make a win – or a draw, if it stops Inter from winning the title – all the more important for the Rossoneri.

Meanwhile, Inter are not fighting for any other trophies.

The Nerazzurri are out of both the Champions League and the Coppa Italia. But the title seems much more a matter of “when” than “if.”

The Rossoneri, on the other hand, still have the Europa League to fight for.

A top four finish, though, seems all but completely certain for Milan.

Giaccherini observed, “Inter are already looking ahead to the derby.”

“They’re already out of the Coppa Italia and the Champions League. So a loss to Milan in the derby could make their season a little more bitter.”
