Inter Milan will hold decisive contract extension talks with Manchester United and Aston Villa target Denzel Dumfries next week.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper anticipate that Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi would like to keep the Dutchman.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews. The outlet report that the Nerazzurri value Dumfries at around €25-30 million.

At the moment, Dumfries is under contract with Inter until the end of June 2025.

The former PSV player is still on the same deal that he signed when he joined in the summer of 2021.

However, the Nerazzurri will certainly not want to see the 28-year-old head into the final season of his deal without signing an extension.

This would lead to the risk of Dumfries leaving on a free transfer when his contract expires.

Therefore, Inter’s intention is clear. Either Dumfries puts pen to paper on a new deal, or they will aim to sell the player this summer.

There have been some negotiations already, but so far these have been inconclusive.

To date, Dumfries and his representatives have demanded a pay increase to €5 million net per season.

Meanwhile, Inter are only ready to offer the 28-year-old €4 million net per season.

The Nerazzurri are not going to significantly increase their offer. It all comes down to whether or not Dumfries will accept the offer that is on the table.

The decisive round of negotiations has not yet taken place.

However, the Gazzetta reports, the talks will come very soon.

Inter will sit down with Dumfries’s representatives some time next week – this will be for what is basically a take-it-or-leave-it ultimatum.

If the Dutchman accepts Inter’s contract offer, he will stay.

And according to the Gazzetta, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi would be very happy with that.

Dumfries may not be an automatic starter for Inter. But he has proven his worth on plenty of occasions, such as with his late equalizer against Lazio over the weekend.

Inzaghi is a fan of Dumfries’s professionalism, and lack of complaints when he doesn’t start.

On the other hand, if the Dutchman doesn’t accept Inter’s offer, he will be on the market. And the likes of Manchester United and Aston Villa both see him as a target.
