Former Inter, Bayern Munich, and Tottenham Hotspur striker Juergen Klinsmann feels that his old side the Nerazzurri would be capable of reaching at least a semifinal in the Chmapions League this season.

Speaking to Italian television program Apericalcio, via FCInter1908, the German noted that, whilst the title race in the league could well be beyond Inter, the Champions League could be the right opportunity for them to really shine.

Inter face Porto in the first leg of their round of sixteen tie this month.

Whilst this will hardly be an easy couple of matches for the Nerazzurri given the quality of the Portuguese champions, it certainly looks to be a real chance to reach the quarterfinals of Europe’s top club competition.

Moreover, the fact that the Nerazzurri have made it this far by progressing from a group containing Bayern Munich and Barcelona will give them confidence that no matter which opponent is put in front of them, they will have their chance in a knockout tie.

“I like how Inter play, but in the league I think it’s too late and nobody can catch Napoli,” Klinsmann said.

“My hope is that it will be a special season in the Champions League for the Nerazzurri.”

“I think they can do well because their squad is exceptional and have already shown that they can compete with the biggest teams in Europe.”

“I expect at least the semifinal, I think they can get that far.”

“And then let’s not forget the Coppa Italia, which would be less prestigious but is still a trophy,” Klinsmann added.
