Ernesto Paolillo is adamant Inter Milan can lift the Champions League trophy this season despite facing fierce competition.
Speaking to Radio FirenzeViola via FCInterNews, Paolillo also discussed tomorrow’s Serie A clash between Fiorentina and Inter.
After dropping two points in Sunday’s Milan derby, Simone Inzaghi can’t afford a slip-up in Tuscany.
Furthermore, Fiorentina will lack numerous first-team players tomorrow, adding to Inter’s confidence.
However, Paolillo calls for caution.
“It’s a strange match, both in terms of playing time and how it came about,” he claimed.
“I still expect a lively and hard-fought game. Fiorentina needs to recover points to secure a spot in European competitions.
“Inter, on the other hand, aims to catch up with Napoli and has the advantage of a deep squad.
“It allows them to make substitutions without significantly lowering the team’s quality.”
Meanwhile, Inter locked down an impressive fourth-place finish in the newly formatted league phase.
Paolillo believes UEFA introduced this new format for purely financial reasons.

However, he fears the increased number of matches could lead to massive injury concerns.
“It all started with the attempt to create the Super League to increase earnings for top clubs,” he said.
“To prevent that, UEFA and FIFA came up with these longer tournaments, allowing clubs to generate higher revenues.
“The main goal is financial gain. However, at this rate, I believe injuries will become a major issue.
“Muscles have a limit, and we’re already seeing a high number of injuries.”
Finally, he believes Inter have what it takes to win the most prestigious title in European football.
“Italian teams are doing well because they are adapting to the high number of matches,” he continued.
“I am very optimistic. Inter can win the Champions League. Beppe Marotta truly deserves it.”
