Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer doesn’t hide the fact that the Nerazzurri need to improve their defensive record.

The former Bayern Munich keeper spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, after this evening’s 3-2 Serie A victory over Torino.

Inter have won each of their last two matches in Serie A. They won by the odd goal in five against both Udinese and Torino.

Of course, these back-to-back wins are important for Inter, and the points are what matter.

But there are warning signs behind the results.

Inter have now conceded two goals in each of their last three league matches.

In total, the Nerazzurri have conceded that number of goals in four out of the seven matches that they’ve played in Serie A so far this campaign.

And Inter have kept just two clean sheets so far this season in the league. Both of those came prior to the September intentional break.

Inter Keeper Yann Sommer Admits: “We Can’t Keep Conceding So Much”

After this evening’s match against Torino, Inter keeper Sommer commented that “It was important to win.”

“At the moment we’re conceding too many goals,” he continued.

“We have to get back to the defensive record that we had last season.”

“After going 2-0 up, we immediately conceded for 2-1,” Sommer noted.

“And then we went from 3-1 up to 3-2. And they had a chance to make it 3-3.”

“We have to go back to our old standards,” Sommer emphasized.

“We put in a bad performance in the derby,” the Swiss international noted.

Sommer admitted that “Losing like that was very disappointing.”

“But after that match we’ve put together six wins.”

However, Sommer made clear “We can’t keep conceding so much.”

Meanwhile, Sommer spoke about striker Marcus Thuram. The Frenchman was Inter’s hattrick hero against Torino, and is a teammate of Sommer’s from Borussia Monchengladbach too.

“I’m very happy for him,” the 35-year-old said of Thuram.

“Now he’s starting to score with his head as well, so I was joking around with him about that,” Sommer said.

“I’m happy for the contribution that he’s making,” Sommer said.

“Both the goals he’s scoring and all the work that he does leading the line. He opens up spaces for his teammates.”
