Current Parma and former Atletico Madrid and Torino defender Cristian Ansaldi has revealed that his young son was diagnosed with cancer while he played for at Inter Milan.

The 37-year-old spoke to Cronache di Spogliatoio, via FCInterNews. He revealed the emotional moment in his life whilst he was a Nerazzurri player.

Ansaldi spent a total of one season as an Inter player. The Argentine international joined the Nerazzurri in 2016.

Ansaldi made a total of 26 appearances for Inter across all competitions during his single season with the club.

Then, in the summer of 2017, Ansaldi made the move to Torino.

Ansaldi would go on to spend a total of five seasons playing for the Granata. Following that, he made another move within Italy.

Ansaldi joined Parma in Serie B for the 2022-23 campaign.

And that is where the 37-year-old former Inter defender has been playing for the past two seasons.

Ansaldi has helped Parma to promotion back to the top flight this season, where they are top of the Serie B table.

Christian Ansaldi Reveals: “They Discovered My Son Had Cancer When I Was At Inter”

Ansaldi has revealed some very emotional background about his personal life while he was at Inter during the 2016-17 season.

The Argentine explained that “When I was at Inter in 2016, doctors discovered that my son had cancer.”

“It was something that left a big mark on my life,” Ansaldi reflected.

“At that moment you think: ‘You have money, you have lots of friends – but what’s the point of all that if life shows you that the most important thing you have, that you could lose your son suddenly?'”

“In difficult moments like that, one can end up questioning everything,” Ansaldi continued.

“But I’ve always remained connected with my faith,” added the Parma and former Inter defender.

Ansaldi said that “I felt an incredible peace within me. There’s a lot that you can do, but the last word belongs to God.”
