Henrikh Mkhitaryan is looking forward to having a full complement available in midfield at Inter Milan after the break.

The Armenian spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, after his team’s Serie A win over Torino yesterday. He also stressed the importance of tightening up defensively.

At the moment, Inter do not quite have all their options available defensively.

For the last three matches, the Nerazzurri have had to do without former Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella.

Barella is certainly a weighty absence for Inter. He is a key man in the Nerazzurri’s first-choice midfield trio.

However, Inter have coped well enough without Barella.

The Nerazzurri won all of their matches without the 27-year-old. They beat Udinese in Serie A, Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League, and then yesterday, Torino in the league.

However, Inter would certainly not want to do without Barella for too much longer.

Inter have good news in midfield, though.

Barella should make his return from a thigh injury shortly after the international break.

Reports indicate that the 27-year-old is on course to be available for Inter’s first match back from the break. They take on Roma on the 20th of October.

Davide Frattesi has been filling in for Barella in Serie A in the meantime.

The former Sassuolo midfielder has done a good job in his fellow Italian international’s absence.

Of Frattesi, Mkhitaryan said that “We try to help everyone show what they’re capable of.”

“Especially the player who have arrived at the club more recently.”

“We’ll be happier when Barella is also back, and we have a complete midfield,” Mkhitaryan said. “Considering what a top player he is.”

“Nobody told us that winning the Scudetto again would be easy,” the former Arsenal and Manchester United midfielder made clear.

“We’re just thinking about bringing home the points one match at a time.”

And after Inter conceded two goals for the third Serie A match in a row, Mkhitaryan admitted that the defense is “an aspect we need to work more on.”

“Because we’re conceding too much,” the 35-year-old said.

“We know we just need to keep working, working, working,” he added.

“But today we got an important win.”
