One of the most exciting days in the football calendar has come around earlier than usual this year – it’s time for the first knockout round draws in the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League.

Here’s the lowdown on the draws.

When are the draws?

The draws take place on Monday 7 November at the brilliantly named House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.

The Champions League draw begins at 12:00 CET before the Europa League draw follows at 13:00 CET, and the Europa Conference League draws rounds it all off at 14:00 CET.


Which teams are in the Champions League draw?

The draw features the 16 teams which advanced from the Champions League group stages. The eight group winners are seeded, and the eight second placed teams are unseeded.

  3. Chelsea
  4. Manchester City
  5. Napoli
  6. Porto
  7. Real Madrid
  8. Tottenham

Group runners-up (unseeded)

  • Club Brugge
  • Borussia Dortmund
  • Eintracht Frankfurt
  • Inter
  • RB Leipzig
  • Liverpool
  • AC Milan
  • Paris Saint-Germain

Any special rules?

Teams from the same country cannot face each other in the round of 16, nor can teams who have already met in the group stage.

The ties will take place over two legs, with the seeded teams granted the slight advantage of being at home in the second leg.


When does the Champions League round of 16 start?

The first legs are scheduled for 14/15/21/22 February, with the second legs on 7/8/14/15 March. Kick-offs are at 21:00 CET.

The draw for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final is on Friday 17 March.


What about the Europa League draw?

This is the draw for the knockout round play-off, and it features the eight teams who finished second in their respective Europa League groups, and the eight teams who finished third in their respective Champions League groups. They are …

Seeded teams

  1. Manchester United
  2. Midtjylland
  3. Monaco
  4. Nantes
  5. PSV Eindhoven
  6. Rennes
  7. Roma
  8. Union Berlin

Unseeded teams

  • Ajax
  • Barcelona
  • Juventus
  • Bayer Leverkusen
  • RB Salzburg
  • Sevilla
  • Shakhtar Donetsk
  • Sporting CP

Same rules apply as the Champions League draw and first legs are scheduled for 16 February, with the second legs a week later on 23 February.

The winners of the eight ties will join the eight Europa League group winners in the round of 16, with the draw scheduled for 24 February. The losers are out of 2022/23 European competition.


And what about the Conference League?

This draw also features 16 teams: the eight runners-up from the Europa Conference League group stage and the eight third-placed teams from the Europa League group stage.
