Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that past records count for nothing as far as the Merseyside derby is concerned.

The Blue Girls contest the fixture’s latest instalment when they play host to Liverpool at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

Sørensen remains unbeaten against Liverpool in Barclays Women’s Super League Merseyside derbies, however, he says that past records count for very little.

“On Sunday, everything that’s happened before doesn’t really count,” Sørensen said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “Also, you have to take into account the injuries that we have at the moment and Liverpool’s good form. We’ve probably been in better condition as a group than we are right now.

“It comes down to what happens on the day. We need to get our things right and perform then we have a good chance of winning. We respect Liverpool for the season that they’re having, so we will need to be at our very best that’s for sure.”

Liverpool are challenging for a fourth-place finish in this season’s Barclays Women’s Super League. Sørensen believes that this derby test could be the toughest so far in his tenure as Everton manager, although he knows that his side can perform on the day.

He said “Yeah, potentially [the toughest]. I went to watch their game on Sunday against West Ham and they looked good, they were the dominant side and were in control. They also have all of their key players available, so I think that it’s a big challenge for sure.

“Looking at our performances against Chelsea and [Manchester] City, we can definitely do things against really good teams. No disrespect to Liverpool but I don’t think they’re Chelsea or City, that’s why I think we can dominate a game like that. That’s our aim and that’s what we are going to try to do.”
