Everton are interested in a bargain swoop for Dutch midfielder Guus Til.

What’s the news?

The 24-year-old, who was born in Zambia, could have his contract at Spartak Moscow terminated as reported by Dutch media outlet Voetbal International via Liverpool Echo, and it is reportedly also known that he doesn’t want to return to Russia at the end of the season having spent this campaign on loan at Feyenoord.

That has alerted Everton, West Ham and Southampton in particular to his situation after they were linked over the winter.

With the Merseyside club potentially on the lookout for smart, cheap transfers this summer to rebuild their squad, boss Frank Lampard would surely be licking his lips at the idea of signing the in-form ace on a free transfer, who was on just £34k a week too.

Bargain signing for Lampard’s rebuild

After it was announced that Alisher Usmanov’s sponsorship deals with Everton would be suspended following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the football club has been left in a financially precarious position, with it not yet being clear whether or not their star players will need to be sold in order to raise funds.

On top of that, the team are currently in a relegation battle – and regardless of the financial situation, they may be forced to sell their star players anyway should they fail to secure their status in the Premier League for next season.

Consequently, the Toffees may be forced to make a number of smart signings for small transfer fees, and one man that could fit that profile is Dutch attacking-midfielder Guus Til.

Having scored 13 goals this season already in the Eredivisie, as well as contributing two assists, it is clear that Til has an eye for goal and can contribute plenty in the final third – particularly if Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison were to be sold.

Currently, just Dele Alli and Donny Van de Beek are able to play as a central attacking midfielder for Everton right now but neither are really making the kind of impact so far that was hoped from them –  failing to register a goal involvement.

Combine that with the fact that the Dutchman is at Goodison Park on loan, Lampard could be on the lookout for a new player for that position in the summer to centre his rebuild around.

The aforementioned midfielder certainly seems a good choice, especially when you consider the reviews thrown his way. Manager Arne Slot once said of his qualities: “I knew in advance he was capable of scoring goals but what he mainly brings is an unbelievable willpower and running ability when the opponent has the ball.”

Signing Til is a no-brainer. It’s low-risk and potentially high-reward, and should he get off to a good start to his career at his new club, wherever it may be, one thing he guarantees is goals, but he would also bring leadership to a struggling Everton squad having previously captained AZ Alkmaar despite being so young.
