Everton have revealed the news that Danish international full-back Sara Holmgaard is leaving the club when her contract expires at the end of this month.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blue Girls this afternoon.

Everton signed Holmgaard in summer 2022 along with twin sister Karen. Holmgaard initially continued her development away from Merseyside with former club Fortuna Hjørring. Since returning to Everton from her loan, Holmgaard has gradually forced her way into the team, becoming a key player in the full-back position.

Holmgaard made 19 appearances for Everton in the Barclays Women’s Super League this season, scoring three goals. While she was an asset at the back, Holmgaard also impressed going forward with her crossing being a particularly strong attribute. The player has developed massively with Everton but her time at the club is now coming to an end.

Speaking after the player’s exit was announced, Everton boss Brian Sørensen said “Sara has been a top professional since she arrived at the Club and has shone on and off the pitch this season. She has enjoyed an impressive year at left-back, whilst supporting her twin Karen through a tough time on the sidelines with injury.

“Everyone at Everton thanks Sara for the service she has given us and we wish her the best for the future.”

Holmgaard is the seventh player to be leaving Everton this summer.
