Everton’s summer recruitment drive has taken an eye-catching turn with the pursuit of Manchester City winger Jack Grealish. As reported by iNews, David Moyes is a strong admirer of the England international and is leading the charge to bring him to Merseyside on loan.
With the Toffees keen to bolster their ranks before the move into the Hill Dickinson Stadium, Grealish sits high on their list of ambitious targets. At 29 and entering a crucial stage of his career, Grealish is understood to be prioritising regular game time ahead of next summer’s World Cup. That need could make Everton’s offer more appealing than others, especially given Moyes’s ability to offer him a guaranteed starting role.
“Our attraction is maybe to some younger ones who are up and coming, or also those from lower leagues,” Moyes said, but Grealish is a different calibre entirely.
Everton are not alone in their pursuit. West Ham, along with Italian champions Napoli, are also circling. The competition could complicate the situation, with Grealish’s wages presenting a significant stumbling block. iNews notes that “any transfer would require compromises from City, the player and whichever club signs him.”

Despite that, Everton’s interest is “genuine,” and sources suggest City are yet to confirm whether they prefer a permanent exit or will sanction a loan.
Grealish’s recent campaign at City was largely spent watching from the sidelines, a point which England boss Thomas Tuchel will have noted. His lack of game time has put his Euro 2026 prospects at risk. “Tuchel has repeatedly voiced his admiration for Grealish yet will not pick him if he continues to be a fringe player at the Etihad,” reports iNews.
The Toffees have already made one breakthrough with the £9 million signing of Adam Aznou from Bayern Munich, who is currently undergoing a medical. It’s a move that signals both intent and strategy.
Moyes has set a target of up to 10 new arrivals, and while some targets – such as Liam Delap – have slipped through their fingers, Everton remain active in multiple markets. Their interest in Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney is one example, although Ipswich Town appear to be leading that race.
Moyes remains realistic about the competition. “We’re up against it,” he admitted from the club’s pre-season tour in the United States, referring to rivals who can offer European football.
For Grealish, Everton represents more than just minutes on the pitch. It’s a chance to rebuild his reputation, reclaim his England spot and become a central figure in a revitalised project. The club’s move to a new stadium, increased financial commitment and Moyes’s clear vision provide a compelling backdrop.
As the summer window enters its final month, this is a transfer story that has the potential to define Everton’s season – and maybe even Grealish’s career. If the Toffees can pull it off, it would be one of the most impressive moves of the window.
From the blue half of Merseyside, this feels like the kind of move fans have been dreaming of. Jack Grealish may not have had the best of seasons at City, but make no mistake – he’s still a world-class talent. To see him in Everton blue, dancing down the flanks at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, would be something else.
David Moyes has already brought a sense of steel and structure back to the side, but adding a player like Grealish would be a statement. It says Everton mean business. Not just trying to survive, but to compete, to grow and to be taken seriously again.
There’s also something poetic about Grealish rediscovering form at a club like Everton. He needs to be the centrepiece, not a rotation option. At Goodison, or rather the Hill Dickinson, he’d be idolised and relied upon. If Moyes can convince him to take that step, this could be the signing that kickstarts a new era.
Bring him home. Let him thrive. Let’s make Everton a club that attracts elite players again.
