Ekitike was signed by the Ligue 1 champions in July 2022 after an impressive season at Stade Reims.

The 21-year-old joined on an initial loan deal before officially signing for a fee in the region of €28.5million (£24.5million) this summer.

He had attracted interest from Newcastle United before joining PSG, though his maiden campaign at Parc des Princes hints that Eddie Howe dodged a bullet.

Although starts were hard to come by for Ekitike, he and his club will be disappointed after only scoring four goals in 32 appearances across all competitions in 2022/23.

Ekitike might have only just signed for PSG on a permanent basis but he is being linked with an immediate exit.

German club Eintracht Frankfurt showed an interest at the start of the summer and now there are a host of Premier League clubs eyeing up a move for the French striker.

West Ham and Nottingham Forest are believed to be keen and now Everton have joined the race, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfer expert says the Toffees have “concrete interest” in Ekitike and will open talks over a loan deal with an option to buy.

He wrote on Twitter: “Everton have concrete interest in Hugo Ekitike. Told negotiation will take place over loan deal with buy option clause that can become mandatory.

“Terms of the deal and numbers not discussed yet, still at early stages with both PSG and player side.”

Everton have become less and less appealing for players over the years, especially after narrowly avoiding relegation from the Premier League two seasons in a row.

Things are looking slightly more positive going into the new season, though they are still a long way off competing in the top half, which is where fans believe they belong at the very least.

It will be interesting to see if Ekitike accepts a move to Goodison Park given the turbulence at the club.

, signing Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal and Ashley Young on a free transfer from Aston Villa.

Romano might not have mentioned Frankfurt, but Sky Sports Germany recently reported that they would be interested in signing Ekitike if they sell Randal Kolo Muani.

Kolo Muani is being strongly linked with a move to PSG, though there has been no talk of a single deal involving both players.
