In a recent report, The Athletic (subscription required) mentioned that Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin is open to joining Arsenal this month. It has been stated that the Gunners are eager to land a new striker during this winter transfer window with the Toffees centre-forward keen on making a switch to the Emirates Stadium.

Calvert-Lewin’s Injury Concerns At Goodison Park This Season

Injuries have disrupted Calvert-Lewin’s progress at the Merseyside club which has seen him miss a lot of games during this campaign. The 24-year-old has found the back of the net on three occasions in six matches for Everton this season across all competitions.

The England international has performed well enough to average 1.3 clearances, 3.0 shots and 0.8 key passes per game in Premier League football. However, his link-up has been woeful at times which explains why he has only completed 60.9% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football this season (stats via whoscored).

Should Everton Sanction Calvert-Lewin’s Exit?

Calvert-Lewin is quite clever with his movements in and around the opposition penalty box and can use his strong 1.89m frame to dominate his marker in the air. The 11-time England international has a knack for creating space for himself to get a few shots in on-target and can be a composed finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing well on the field. However, Calvert-Lewin has to figure out a way to improve his link-up play if he aspires to win trophies at the highest level.

The English sensation remains an important asset for Everton as he can bang in some goals over a few games to get the Merseyside club out of relegation danger in the second half of this campaign.

Losing Calvert-Lewin in this ongoing transfer window could prove to be a catastrophic move for the Toffees as they might find themselves getting dragged into the relegation dogfight over the next few months if they decide to sell him. There is already a lot of uncertainty at Goodison Park following the sacking of Rafael Benitez, so the last thing the club’s owners need is to anger the fans by sanctioning their best player’s exit this January.
