In a recent report, journalists Dean Jones and Matt Smith revealed that Everton are keeping tabs on Bologna playmaker Lewis Ferguson. It has been stated that the Toffees would have to rival Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Brentford and Fulham in the race to land the Scottish talent in the summer.

Ferguson’s Impressive Form In Italian Football This Season

Ferguson is having a decent season at the Italian club as he has managed to put in a run of influential displays for them in the final third. The 24-year-old has scored six goals and grabbed five assists in 30 appearances for Bologna during this campaign across various competitions.

The Scottish sensation has managed to catch the eye at times in the final third by averaging 1.9 shots and 1.1 key passes per game in Serie A. He has even distributed the ball relatively well in the opposition half after making 88.2% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).

Ferguson is under contract at Bologna until the summer of 2027. Therefore, Everton would find it difficult to get a deal done for him on the cheap in the summer transfer window.

Should Everton Head Coach Sean Dyche Move In For Ferguson?

Ferguson can shoot the ball with venom and accuracy from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the attacking end of the field. He hardly gives away the ball cheaply in the opponent’s half and can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top.

We can expect Ferguson to bring more quality to Everton boss Sean Dyche’s frontline. He is more than capable of challenging for a regular starting spot at Goodison Park in the coming seasons.

Ferguson is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so by his manager. However, there are some question marks over whether he can adjust to the physical style and high intensity of Premier League football if the Toffees manage to get him on board this summer.

At 24, Ferguson will only get better over the next few years, so Dyche should consider moving in for him, especially if he becomes available for the right price in the upcoming transfer period.
