In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Paul Brown claimed that Everton are big admirers of Fulham midfielder Harrison Reed. Brown said,

“I’ve heard links between Everton and Reed before. I do think he is a player that they really like. I can remember, not so long ago, Marco Silva talking him up as a potential England international. He was saying that he was very surprised he hadn’t been called up.

“I actually think that it is a strange one right now, in terms of timing, because Everton have got their midfield sorted out at the moment.

“I think the balance is quite good there, but someone like Reed would come in expecting to start every week. He might not get that opportunity in the way that Dyche likes to set up.”

Reed’s Decent Season In The Premier League

The 28-year-old is enjoying a decent campaign at the London club after he produced a series of influential performances at the heart of their midfield. Reed has participated in 20 matches for the Cottagers this season, picking one assist in the process across all fronts.

The English talent has given a good account of himself at the centre of the park based on his average 0.8 tackles, 0.8 clearances and 0.5 key passes per game in Premier League football. He has even been careful when distributing the ball from midfield after making 87.6% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the London club will run out in the summer of 2027 which would make it difficult for the Toffees to land him on a cut-price deal before the end of this month.

What Will Reed Bring To Everton?

Reed is a tough-tackling midfielder who usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive. He can even create a few decent chances for his teammates in the final third.

At the moment, Reed is playing at a high level which makes him a decent option for the Toffees to consider this winter. He would bring more bite and steel to Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s midfield department.

At 28, Reed is playing in his prime and has what it takes to make an immediate impact at Goodison Park. Thus, it makes sense for the Merseyside club to make a move to bring the English talent on board this January.
