In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Everton are among clubs hoping to land Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez. It has been claimed that the Toffees could face competition in the form of Liverpool and Arsenal in pursuit of the Argentine midfield ace.

Rodriguez’s Solid Start To This Campaign

Rodriguez is having a solid campaign at the Estadio Benito Villamarín as he has put in some impressive displays at the centre of Real Betis’ midfield. The 28-year-old has found the back of the net once in nine matches for the Spanish club this season across all fronts.

The 25-time Argentine international has anchored the midfield well by averaging 3.2 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 2.3 clearances, 0.7 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 89.2% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

The Argentine sensation’s current deal with the Spanish club is set to run out at the end of next season. Hence, the Toffees might have a good shot at landing Rodriguez on the cheap in 2022.

Goodison Park

Is Rodriguez The Right Fit For Everton Boss Frank Lampard?

Rodriguez can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team on the defensive third of the field. He usually clears the danger when required and can retain possession well for his team at the centre of the park. Rodriguez is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a free-flowing, box-to-box midfielder if his manager asks him to do so.

The South American sensation is a decent dribbler with the ball and has got the eye to play a decisive pass in the opposition’s half.

We can expect Rodriguez to add more bite and steel to Frank Lampard‘s midfield department at Goodison Park. Plus, he could help the Merseyside club challenge for a top-half finish in the Premier League.

Therefore, it makes sense for the Toffees to try everything in their power to recruit the Real Betis midfield ace either in January or at the end of this campaign. At 28, Rodriguez is currently playing in his prime which makes him a good fit for Everton next year. However, there are some concerns over whether the talented midfield enforcer would be able to cope with the physical nature and high intensity of English football if the Toffees manage to get him on board on a cut-price deal in the future.
