Need a goal at a major tournament? Call Alexandra Popp, obviously.

The striker has taken her international tally to 64 goals in the first half of Germany’s Women’s World Cup opener against Morocco on Monday.

Both goals were trademark headers — one from open play, one stooping from a corner — and took the German captain to 11 goals across her appearances at World Cups and Euros.

No active European player has as many career goals across the two tournaments.

Popp scored as many goals at last summer’s Euros as Golden Boot winner Beth Mead (six) but missed out on the award due to her number of assists.

She is the third player to score a brace at this summer’s World Cup, the first European player to do so, and will surely stake a strong claim for the Golden Boot once again.
