PSG keen to take Manchester United star David de Gea on loan

According to The Daily Star, PSG is keen to take Manchester United star David de Gea on loan in the summer.

The Spanish superstar has been the club’s first-choice goalkeeper for a decade now. However, Dean Henderson appears to have usurped him as the new preferred choice in goal.

There is also speculation that United might be willing to sell De Gea in the summer. The 30-year-old is the club’s highest earner and selling him will see us save £375,000 per week in wages.

The player is unhappy with his role at the club and appears to be willing to seek his fortunes elsewhere. One such opportunity seems to be opening up in France with Paris Saint-Germain.

While United are keen to sell the player outright, they are not averse to loaning him out.

The veteran is no more an automatic first choice at the club. De Gea hasn’t played in the Premier League since the end of February and Solskjaer is said to be willing to make Henderson his first-choice next season. (h/t Daily Star)

An underwhelming replacement?

With De Gea potentially out, United need to bring in a new backup goalkeeper. Perhaps an underwhelming option, but the Red Devils appear to be eyeing Aston Villa keeper Tom Heaton as that man.

The 35-year-old spent his early years at United before leaving to make a name for himself elsewhere. Now in the final years of his career, he will only be more than glad to serve as a backup at the Theatre of Dreams.

While it may be time for De Gea and United to go their separate ways, bringing in Heaton to replace him would be a downgrade. Henderson is a good first choice and will only improve with time but not strengthening his backup could prove to be costly over the course of a long season.
