Goals galore again from Lionesses

Scorers: Kirby 40′, Mead 45′, Russo 49′, 55′, Burrows (OG) 78′.

England rounded off their group stage with three wins out of three as they made light work of Northern Ireland in Southampton.

The Lionesses dominated the first half but were kept at bay for 40 minutes by a stubborn Northern Ireland defence until Fran Kirby broke the deadlock with a stunning curled effort into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Beth Mead then bagged her fifth of the tournament with a smart, poked finish from just inside the area on the stroke of half-time.

The floodgates opened in the second half, with Alessia Russo coming off the bench to score two goals inside six minutes.

First, she produced a lovely looping header from eight yards out before producing a stunning delicate turn from Ella Toone’s pass to break away from her marker and poke into the bottom corner from close range.

Kelsie Burrows turned Mead’s cross into her own net 12 minutes from time to wrap up an other thrashing for Sarina Wiegman’s side.

Austria progress to quarter-finals

Scorers: Billa 37′.

Ada Hegerberg will be heading home after Norway crashed out following a 1-0 defeat to Austria, who progress in second place.

Nicole Billa scored the decisive goal of the match in the 37th minute, headed Verena Hanshaw’s perfect cross into the bottom corner to give her side a vital lead.

The Norwegians had no response to that blow but they did come within a whisker of pulling level in the last minute of the game.

Celin Bizet’s curled effort looked to be heading into the top corner before it was tipped on to the bar by Manuela Zinsberger.

Austria held out to set up a quarter-final clash with Germany.
